Copy the files over to your hard drive, try to open them again. The Publisher
files maybe read only if they are stored on removable media. -- Mary Sauer MSFT MVP http://office.microsoft.com/ http://msauer.mvps.org/ news://msnews.microsoft.com "Maurizio" wrote in message ... Disable McAfee, try to open the files again. Publisher balks at removable media,
they should be on your hard drive. When you copy the files over, right-click a file, properties, does the read only have a check mark? publisher cannot open file from a different version
Oh, just never heard of the terminology.
I need to recap. You got a new computer. Both old and new computer have Publisher. You copied Pub files from old computer to storage device, you copied those files back onto the new computer. They won't open. You tried disabling AV. Still no success. A few questions: 1. Which version of Publisher is on the old computer? 2. Which version of Publisher is on the new computer? (Please don't say Version 6 - I deal with things like Pub 98, Pub 2000, etc. Sorry) 3. Have you checked the files on the new computer (within Windows Explorer) and made sure they are not read-only? 4. Is there any chance you can email me one of the questionable files? 5. I have to ask this question - Any chance you are getting Home Publishing and Publisher mixed up? It happens every now and then and sometimes you need to eliminate that fact. -- JoAnn Paules MVP Microsoft [Publisher] "Maurizio" wrote in message ... a memory stick. publisher cannot open file from a different version
The only way you will see "archiving" is by clicking the advanced button in the
properties dialogue. Are you using Windows XP? The "read only" is an attribute. What happens if you double-click a file? -- Mary Sauer MSFT MVP http://office.microsoft.com/ http://msauer.mvps.org/ news://msnews.microsoft.com "Maurizio" wrote in message ...
