Alias,
Have you tried inserting a continuous section break under your first table and then protecting section 1 with the first table, and leaving section 2 unprotected? In Word 2003 there is a task pane document protection where you can easily protect forms, in the second section of the task pane check only allow..., in the list choose forms, click on the link select sections... protect and unprotect at will and you are set. Thank you so much. I had already did the continuous section break. It was the "Select sections" part that I kept missing so thank you for pointing it out for me.
