Rename Menu Item

When I R. Click a menu item in Word 2000 I do not get any options. I want to rename a menu item. I understand this should work. Any ideas why it doesn't.

Cathe, first display the Customize dialog box (Tools Customize), then
proceed with what you were doing. Your changes will take effect when you
close the Customize dialog box.

I realized it's easy to do it once you are there...but when you are learning you expect MS to provide a rename option after a R.Click
