Start MailMerge in Outlook2203
When I used Outlook/Word 2000, I used to be able to start Mail Merge in
Outlook with a customized folder view and get a merge file that contained only Contacts in certain Categories, like 'Key Customer'. When I try to do this in in Outlook 2003, the Mail Merge Helper launches in Word 2003, but it says it cannot find the data source created by Outlook. When I start MailMerge from Word 2003, it grabs the entire Contacts folder out of Outlook 2003, including those not designated as 'Key Customer'. How do I start MailMerge in Outlook 2003 to use my old customized folder views? |

Provide accurate detail of the steps you used when you "do this."
It works just fine here. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "aj" wrote in message ... In Outlook 2000, I entered select contacts with Categories set to Key
Customer. Then I defined a View called 'KeyCustMailing' with Settings for Fields = Full Name, Business Address and the Advanced Filter criteria of Full Name is not empty, Business Address is not empty, and Categories doesn't contain personal. Then I set the Current View to KeyCustMailing and start Mail Merge by selecting Tools, Mail Merge. On the popup, I set Contacts to All in current view, Fields to All in Current View, Document file to New, don't check the Permanent file box in Contact data file, select Mailing Labels under Document Type and New Document in Merge to. When I click OK, Word 2000 launches and the Office Assistant pops up with a box to select either Complete Setup or Tell me more... When I click on the Complete Setup radio button, the Mail Merge Helper pops up. I click on Setup and select the appropriate label. When I click OK, the Create Labels popup launches with an Insert Merge Field and an Insert Postal Bar Code buttons. This popup does not launch when I do this same procedure in Outlook/Word 2003, and I do not get a Mail Merge toolbar in Word 2003. In O/W 2000, I click on Insert and select Full_Name and Business_Address and click OK. The Mail Merge Helper is then reactivated and the Merge button is now also activiated, and I can complete the merge process. The Merge button on this popup is never activiated when I do this procedure in O/W 2003. If you don't get the Mail merge toolbar, enable it.

OK. I finally figured out how to enable to Mail Merge Toolbar. In O/W 2003
when the Mail Merge Helper pops up, I click on Setup and select the appropriate label. When I click OK, the Create Labels popup is still not launching as it does in O/W 2000. So I can't insert the merge fields into the sample label, and the fields are not replicating across the page. Thanks in advance for walking me through this process. After you select the appropriate label, exit the Mail Merge Helper and use
the Mail Merge Toolbar to do the rest of the merge. Also, in Outlook/Word 2002/2003 there is an extra step required to create mailing labels.
