Can someone tell me what does the &quot and &gt mean in most of
the posts that I am looking at? These are appearing in all the answers
within the question and/or reply?

Those are HTLM symbolic constants, specifically for a quote and a
greater than sign. You are viewing the raw HTML code rather than
the formatted output.
