I've just joined this group and I'm shocked :-)

What are these respected MVPs doing cross-posting? Did someone change the
rules and I missed it?

The rules have ALWAYS been to cross-post (i.e.: post the same message once
to multiple newsgroups), not multi-post (post the same message separately to
multiple newsgroups). In that way, all answers to the thread will appear
together, regardless of what newsgroup the responder is currently in and
people using proper news readers won't have to read the post more than once.
It also requires fewer server resources.

Having said that, this particular post is excessively cross-posted...

so... how do I go inside the "LDB" file?

Quick and dirty? Use the TYPE command at a Command Prompt:

C:\TEST TYPE TESTER.LDB

Better solution:

Hi Doug. I stand corrected! But I'm sure it's frowned on in some NGs.

Another possible reason the ldb doesn't get deleted is if users don't have
delete permission on the folder where the mdb is located; I suppose one
could remove this permission to ensure the ldb doesn't get deleted, but
darned if I know why you'd do that.

As far as I know, you cannot delete the .ldb if it is in use by
Access. There is no setting to tell Access not to delete the file.

If the file is still there after all users have exited the database,
then something "bad" happened. That could be that someone abnormally
exited the application (pulled the plug on the computer) , there was
a network problem, or Access crashed.

but * I * want to delete it. ME. Can I change a setting somewhere
on my computer that tells Microsoft Access to not automatically
delete the "LDB" file?

"John Spencer" wrote in message

NO, it is DELETED, Trashed, Killed, no longer exists.

If all users have logged out of the database, Access automatically
deletes the .ldb file. It is a temporary file that is no longer
needed. "Trey Davis" wrote in message

So your saying it becomes invisible or something?

"Bill Mosca, Access MVP" wrote in message

Did you not read what Ed wrote? The LDB file should self-destruct
as soon as all users are out of the database, but it will be
undeletable if the database is in use.

LDB is the lock file created whenever the MDB file is open. It
normally deletes itself after use. To delete it manually, kick
out all users, then simply select the file and delete it.

As Doug said, this one is excessively cross-posted, which is frowned upon.
However once it's done, it is best not to trim the newsgroups.
