Office 2007 and 2003 common install - Which version is default?
Actually I know the answer, by default it's 2007.
I installed Office Professional 2007 RTM alongside Office Professional 2003. I used the "Custom" install and selected everything except Outlook. I kept that at version 2003. Now everytime I load a document by double-clicking on it, the 2007 version of the application is launched. I would like it to be the 2003 version. I've tried redirecting the file associations on the "File Types" tab of "Folder Options" without success. Though I can locate and select the 2003 EXE file and select it, it still reverts to using the 2007 version. I also have a critical third party application which is essentially a UI frontend for a collection of Excel macros that I need to analyze data collected on an instrument I work with. Before installing 2007 using that application would launch Excel 2003, run the macro and present the results. Now it attempts to run Excel 2007 and encounters a "Fatal error." I know that I'll need to work with the application developer to make this program compatible with Excel 2007, but in the short term I'd be satisfied with simply having it launch 2003 instead. Any ideas about how I can make my 2003 applications default again? Thanks! Tom C |

Office 2007 and 2003 common install - Which version is default?
I've had the same issue with Excel 2003 & 2007, and wanting to make
2003 the default. I also tried changing the file assocations (to no effect). I managed to remedy it in the end by opening Excel 2003, and going to Help/Detect and Repair, and selecting the 'Repair my shortcuts' option. Once it had completed (and rebooted), Excel 2003 is now the default again. Hope that helps Cheers Paul |

Office 2007 and 2003 common install - Which version is default
Paul,
That worked great. I knew of "Detect & Repair..." but didn't think that it applied in this situation. I used this to fix Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Visio associations. Thanks a lot!
