Default Excel 2000: Data Validation List - no drop down arrow; no frozen cells

Hi all!

I have an Excel 2000 spreadsheet in which I'm trying to use Data Validation
to restrict entered values to a List. The List is hard coded on the same
worksheet. The Data Validation Settings tab says "List", =$A$127:$A$158
(the location of the list), and "In cell dropdown" is selected. The View
tab says "Show all objects". And yet, no drop down list box.

There are hidden columns, and a lot of formatting, but nothing I've
researched so far has provided me with a solution. My specific version is
Excel 2000 9.0.6926 SP-3.

Any and all ideas very much appreciated.

cheers,
Matt.

Try this:

Select the cell that should have the list. Then press Alt-down arrow and
see if the list shows up. If so, the validation is there.

You mentioned you have hidden columns. I ran into a problem with an earlier
version (possiblly Excel 2000 or 97) where cells with data validation
adjacent to frozen panes would not display properly. This could be related
to your issue. If your data validation cell is, say, G4, make sure that
columns F and H, rows 3 and 5 are all visible.

Hope that helps.

Matt

Excel 97 had a problem with the drop-down not showing up if it was placed in a
cell above the "freeze" line if WindowFreeze Panes was enabled.

I skipped over Excel 2000 and find no problem with 2002 or 2003.

Perhaps it was still apparent in 2000?

Hi John!

The Alt+Down Arrow produces a list of information already in the column
(i.e. column header).

There are no frozen panes on my spreadsheet. I've unhidden all my columns,
and I still get no list box indicator. If I create another sheet in the
same workbook, I get no problems.

The validation is working however. I can't type just anything in the box,
it must come from the list.

Anything else?

cheers,
Matt.
