"Do you want to save changes?" when nothing changed
I've coped with this anomaly for a coupla years - I'm ready for it to go
away.... If I open a Word doc containing a hyperlink, and do nothing to it (e.g., close it immediately after opening it), Word asks "Do you want to save the changes you made to filename" 'Anyone seen this? 'Anyone understand why it behaves this way, and what can be done to stop such needless prompting? (I don't see this behavior except with files that include a hyperlink - a nuance that it took me about a year to discover; previously this behavior seemed to randomly strike certain files.) Thanks |

Hi Stego,
It is because when you click on a hyperlink Word changes the character style on the hyperlink to one that indicates you have clicked on the link. On my PC they change from blue to purple. Word is just asking you if you want to save the file with the updated style for your hyperlink. You can say yes if you wan't but unless I specifically want changes to a file I always say no to this sort of message. I had the same problem with one of my word docs on XP. I searched through
the entire document for smart tags and all editing marks that Word makes and told it to ignore them or make them go away. Since then it has not asked me if I want to save changes. I'd be curious to know if it works for you. "stego" wrote: I've coped with this anomaly for a coupla years - I'm ready for it to go away.... Thanks for the reply. Naturally, I don't want to remove hyperlinks. How
then do I tell it to ignore them (i.e., smart tags or editing marks) or make them go away? "KC Financial" wrote: I had the same problem with one of my word docs on XP. Hyperlinks are not smart tags. See “WD2002: You Are Prompted to Save Changes
