Default field cannot be updated (error 3164)

i have a sub-form that we enter invoice details into. i have a combo box that
we use to select the part number from. this has worked fine over a long
period of time. you used to be able to type in the first number or letter of
the part and it would filter down until the correct part was seen. now when
you type in the first character i get the 'field cannot be updated' error
saying that something is locked and wait for someone to get out...etc. No one
else is in this database. The combo box query comes from a linked table. Once
you clear the error by clicking ok on the error box everything works fine.

Do i need to re-build the sub-form? i am at a loss. i've checked all the
threads and have done what the threads suggest, but non of the suggestions
have worked. access 2003. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

I'm not sure what you have tried from your description above, but one thing
you can try is to make a new combo for the part number.
If the new combo works fine, then just delete the one giving the error.

Just to let anyone who might have the same issue know that I fixed this by
removing a timestamp field that was on my form. Once removed the error
message stopped showing up.
