Default Freezes when #ing a column in large table? Help!

Hi,
I am trying to number a column in a pretty large word table. he method I
know is to highlight the entire column by clicking the top gridline in that
column, then clicking the "Numbering bullets" icon. When I do this one of
two things happens: either Word becomes nonresponsive or nothing at all
happens?
Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks!!

First suggestion is to not click on that button (or the bullet button) -
ever!

There are lots of ways of numbering that work in Word. Unfortunately that
numbering button is not one of them. The other one that doesn't work is
Format List Number Style. If you are upset about this, your feelings are
justified.

You could insert SEQ fields in the first column or apply a numbering style
using specific methods.

See: How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in your Word
document

bullets see http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/bull...olbullets.html, the
subject is related.)
