Default Outlook 2000 uses 100% resources when creating new email

What prompted a recent reformatting and reinstallation of Windows XP
Home and Office 2000 Pro was a problem with Outlook 2000 using 100% of
computer resources when composing a new email.

Both Office and WinXP are current in patches and this is a new
symptom, which did NOT go away with the reinstall.

Something similar to this was an early XP SP2 problem, could its
recurrance be the result of a new, recent patch?
