Default Text marked with "Do not check spelling or grammar" is skipped

How do I spell check a signature in Outlook 2003 (using Word 2003 as email editor)?

I have a user who wants to select different signatures for different purposes. He then modifies the signature's text to suit the message he is about to send. He then wants to spell check the text before sending. However, Word will not spell-check the signature. The message returned is "Text marked with 'Do not check spelling or grammar' is skipped." Can Word be configured to check the spelling of the entire body of the message including the signature?

Thanks.

Why doesn't he create more sigs and change them on the fly or use autotext
to insert changes? He can also type his text in the body, spellcheck it and
cut/paste it into the sig. Otherwise, you need to edit the style... I think
styles hold the spellcheck flags.
