Default Excel 2003 'My Recent Documents'

When using Excel 2003 and I try to look at or open 'My Recent Documents' to
see the last x files that I opened I do not have that as an option. Went to
Tool Options, General and Recently Used File LIst and entries fields are both
grayed out (not selectable?) Any suggestion on how to activate this so I can
use this? I did use this before in Office 2000 Excel, however, since I have
loaded Office 2003 and
SP1 I cannot access this option. Thank you in advance on your help.

I don't use xl2003, but I've seen posts about TweakUI interfering with xl2002.

OFFXP: "Most Recently Used" List Missing from File Menu and "Recently Used
File List" Option Unavailable (Q284896)
http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;q284896

Maybe it affects 2003, too.

Finally got it to work. I had to use TweakUI and set the following under
Explorer: Allow Recent Document on Start and Maintain Document History.
However, Office 2003 does not show the most recent used files under the File
Menu as Office 2000 did.
Thanks Dave.

Maybe you turned off:

tools|options|General Tab
Recently used file list.

I have mine (xl2002) checked and set to show 9 file names.

Dave: I did have Recently used file checked and set to 5. Still did not show
any files under the File Menu when I clicked on File. Office 2003 does have
many unique differences from other versions of Office.
Thanks again for the help!
FYI I see where many people are still having problems trying to use Office
Update. I have found that if I use Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer, it
will check Office and more. It will even identify what updates are needed.
That is how I finally updated my Office 2003. I did post this on another
person's posting who was having problems with Office Update now working.

I don't use xl2003, but I don't think that MS changed this behavior--you should
be seeing filenames under the File dropdown. (Maybe someone using xl2003 will
correct me if I'm wrong or will make you continue looking for the problem bg.)

How about this one...

You have to open a file to get it added to the dropdown list. Maybe you just
checked too soon????

Dave: In response to your reply about checking too soon. No, I did update a
file, saved it, closed out Excel and then reopened it to see if it would list
the file under the File Menu. Nothing. It may be a bug or even an option that
was removed from Office 2003.
Thanks again!
