Default Write conflict corrupts the db

Our schools database is often shared across 2 computers. Even when only one computer is being used our users often get a write conflict notice. If they choose anything other than "save to clipboard" the system goes haywire. The relationships between the table where the data they are editing is stored are removed. The record they are editing is replaced with ######## and the primary key is removed from the table. What is going on?

We use Access 2002

have you checked the following:

Are you running a split database?

No I am not running a split database, although I know I should.
I looked at the site you recommended, thanks for that.

I will recheck my code to see if there is any way the write operation can be interrupted.
