Working on a DB
I hope This won't be to long or a string to many.
I'm using ACCESS 2000 on a lap top with windows 2003. I go to about 20 different new subdivisions a day I track the building progress of each new house (slab, walls, roof, shingled, Ect) on the data base I'm working on frmMain has County, City, Subdiv. name, house address, lot#, date, Ect. I have the DB it to the point of data for all this is in the table. I have to print a report after the electric meter can is on the house for that house. Thats not much of a problem. What I want to do is access the data by subdivision and street modify the data put it back in the table. I have tryed a macro and a qry. Qry the table and have the data come up on a form then if I try to pull a 2nd subdivision I have to shut it all down go threw all the (are you sure you want to do that's). I would like to do it off the form with drop down box. Mostly I need ideas of the easy and best way to do that. Let me know what other information might help. What is your table structure look like. Post an example of your data.
You can open a form that has a query as record source without a macro. You can then step through the records - subdivision - house. You have at least two issues:
1) you haven't told us what you mean by "access the data by subdivision and street modify the data put it back in the table." Normally you just open a form based on a query and edit the records. There is not a need to "put it back in the table". I expect there is a very key piece of relevant information that you are withholding. 2) You table seems un-normalized. [quoted text clipped - 41 lines] Engineering Canned 9/27/2006 I hope this works I go to a subdivision input the Subdivision, address, lot#, date, Ect. on that house. next week I go back to see if the house has gone from having the slab(floor) poured to having the walls started next time to see if the roof is on, Each trip is in a week cycle. I do that untill the meter can for the electeic is on the wall then I print a report on that house. each time I visit a house it gets that date and if the house has progressed as far as slab wall, truss, roof, sheeting, shingles. So i have to get tha recordset for a house and update it then save it back to the table. I do 2 areas and each area has between 150 and 300 houses At this time i have a Qry to transfer the houses that have the Ele. meters cans up, to a seperate table and then delete them from the orignal table so I din't have to go threw them on each visit. I'm not sure what you meen by un-normalized table Do I need to splite the table? Are there advantage to that? All this is in 1 table. When you edit data in a form, it changes the data in the table. There is no
reason to "put it back in the table". You don't seem to understand normalization. Did you understand what I meant by putting the 10 date values in 10 different records?
