it's there. http://www.outlook-tips.net/beginner/filepath.htm

you have two choices- delete the nk2 and see if it helps or make a new
profile (using a new name for the profile) - you'll need a new profile if
deleting the nk2 doesn't help.

Hi Russ,

You sound like you know your way around outlook. My 2003 version looses
the
cahed names and addresses each time I shut down so the next morning
autocomplete will not work as I have not sent email for the day. I folled
one persons advise and searched for the .nk2 file and cannot find one on
my
computer.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Geoff

Well, gee. I thought I stated that pretty clearly in my first post. I'm
sorry if it wasn't clear to you.
Try to put yourself in my shoes before you throw stones. Your first post
contained no information that would allow troubleshooting of your
problem.
How am I supposed to know how familiar or unfamiliar you are with
Outlook's
autocompletion feature? Most people using Usenet are well beyond the
neophyte stage if they are turning here for assistance. There is plenty
of
good help here when questions are posted in sufficient detail. The more
we
have to try to read your mind, the more difficult it becomes to tailor an
answer to your exact needs.

Russ, if you had told me in the very first email that messages have to
be
"sent" in order to "populate" one's autocomplete cache, it would have
saved
me about 24 hours of frustration. I appreciate your help, but would
suggest
that you be a little more "user friendly" and simplify your
instructions
or
suggestions so that us neophites get it the first time. Thank you
again.

It was in my first post.
Send messages. Your cache is empty in a new installation and will not
be
populated until you send messages.

OK, already, how do I "Populate" my autocompletion cache???

"Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote:

The question I posed to you was not answered.
Enabling the option and restarting Outlook would do nothing to
populate
your
autocompletion cache.

It's very simple, when I open a new email to send and try to type
in
my
contact's name (I'm typing in the full name, first name, then
last)
AutoComplete does not kick in. I've gone into my Tools, and made
the
appropriate X to use AutoComplete in Advanced Email set up, and
that
doesn't
seem to make it happen. I've even closed out Outlook after
making
that
adjustment and reopened Outlook, assuming that maybe the change
won't
take
place until doing that, and it still doesn't work.

Any ideas? I have Outlook 2003.

You have provided no information. Explain why you think
"AutoComplete"
is
not working. Make sure you mention how many messages you have
sent
to
populate your autocompletion cache.

Default Why is my AutoComplete in Outlook 2003 not working?

Stephanie,

I am having the same problem you were back in May. Tried to figure out if
you ever got it resolved but I couldn't tell. I got lost in the nk2 part.

My son imported the address book data from Outlook express on my old
computer by burning it onto a CD and uploading it that way. I am a new user
to Outlook and cannot get the AutoComplete to work with my existing
addresses. Nothing in the Help menu is helping.

Can you let me know how you resolved the problem?
Thanks,
Bernadette

Autocompletion has nothing to do with your Contacts.
It uses a cache of names created from email you have sent.
