Header and Footer
For more on this, see:
How is it possible to copy an entire document into another document without bringing across the header and footer? http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting...ectionInfo.htm -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Suzanne S. Barnhill" skrev i meddelandet ... Glad you finally got it sorted. Although creating the header and footer may have been the trick, it's also possible that just adding some content did it. I do know that if you use Insert | File to insert a document into a completely blank document, it will take on the formatting of the inserted file, in effect including the final paragraph mark (which I consider perverse). If you press Enter a couple of times before inserting the file, then it doesn't bring its section formatting with it. Adding a header may have accomplished the same thing. -- Suzanne S. "MoPete99" wrote in message ... Suzanne, The PROBLEM has been solved. Before reading your reply to my post today, I copied w/o section breaks and the final paragraph mark and pasted into a new document again. However, this time I created a header and footer with page numbers BEFORE pasting to the target new document. Afterward, a second section break was inserted and page numbers were formatted to fit it (section break 2). If memory serves me correctly, you mentioned in an earlier reply that one has to create a header and footer in order to be able to activate it. I failed to heed your advice and was trying to create the header and footer ex post copying from a corrupt source document and pasting to a new target document. I have learned so much about styles and formatting and headers and footers since "peeking" into the community. Learning is a lifelong process is one is open to it. I have been using word for a few years and never understood the difference between style formatting versus direct formatting, not to mentioned the simple task of creating a header and footer BEFORE composing a new document that includes section breaks. That has all changed. Thank you, thank you, thank you and Charles for all the assistance with this seemingly insurmountable issue. Keep up the good work! "Suzanne S. "MoPete99" wrote in message ... Charles, As an addendum to the message sent today, I have discovered that the new document created from the corrupt one will activate the header and footer toolbar in the first section, but not the second one. It appears that the corruption carried over from section two in the corrupt document into the new one as well. Any insights on how to proceed with the de-corruption? Thanks! "Charles Kenyon" wrote: http://addbalance.com/usersguide/doc...corruption.htm Generally you copy your document, a bit at a time into a new document. You do not want any section breaks, which includes the last pilcrow in the document, copied into the new document. Unfortunately, this is also all of the headers and footers. -- Charles Kenyon Word New User FAQ & Web Directory: http://addbalance.com/word Intermediate User's Guide to Microsoft Word (supplemented version of Microsoft's Legal Users' Guide) http://addbalance.com/usersguide See also the MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/ which is awesome! Hi Charles, I have isolated that my word document is corrupt in at least one paragraph mark (pilcrow). When I show paragraph marks in the document, there is one at the very top and bottom left of each page, which is dim. Page numbers also are listed at the bottom of each page. Moreover, if I click on the pilcrow at the top or bottom of a page, the header and footer toolbar will pop up along with the boxes. Yet when I hide the pilcrow, the header and footer toolbar and boxes will not activate. Any suggestions on how to fix a corrupt document? Thank you in advance for any assistance. I received comprehensive instructions from a community member in this NG about using a macro to activate the H&F toolbar. However, when I entered the command in the immediate window of vba, a run-time "automation" error occurred. So I am still stuck. Thanks for you responses. "Suzanne S. "MoPete99" wrote in message ... Suzanne, My problem is that the Header and Footer on the view menu is not visible when I activate it. The only thing that happens is the page where I want to activate the H&F "jumps", but no H&F box or toolbar is visible. I am baffled at why Word refuses to activate the H&F command. "Suzanne S. "MoPete99" wrote in message ... Using MS Word 2003, when I activate the header and footer boxes from the view menu, they are only visible when the plicrow (paragraph symbol) is engaged. The symbol also is listed in the header and footer boxes and I can't eliminate it. All I'm trying to do is to insert page numbers in the footer of a document after one section break. Any assistance with this issue is greatly appreciated. |
