MSACCESS 2003 Fails After SP2 Update
I'm pasting what they told me to do with the registry below:
Import the Jet registry key from a working computer. The following registry key can be exported from a computer that is not exhibiting the problem (a “good” computer) and imported to a computer that is exhibiting the problem. This will correct the issue. As always, great care should be taken when working with the Windows registry, as some changes could render Windows unusable. Both machines need to have the same OS and the “good” machine should have Office 2003 SP2 installed and working properly (i.e. Access launches normally). If a “good” computer does not currently exist, once can be created by installing Office 2003 from a CD, or another source other than a user policy, and then patched to the SP2 level. I'm more optimistic and hope a hotfix will be available shortly. They have to get this problem solved because they're going to get hammered on it if they don't. My history with them is hard to understand. Sometimes I get a hotfix very easily and quickly; othertimes, I beg for one to solve a problem that seriously affects me and I am totally ignored. Michael It's not come through, can you please post the reg key again (try plain text, looks like you've pasted an HTML page). If it's just a reg key, I can easily fix it. I suspect it's either missing from the MSI or is not set to always install. Jon |

Sorry about that. I didn't paste their entire message. The key is HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Jet. Michael |

I checked the Jet reg keys over the weekend and found nothing wrong with them. From the debugging I did, I've pinned it down to the feature AccessFiles and am currently checking through that, although it's proving tricky to pin it down to the sub feature that's causing it. I suspect someone in MS has manually changed something in the Advertising tables, which is conflicting - causing a repair everytime the app is launch. Jon |

MSACCESS 2003 Fails After SP2 Update
Jon:
Honestly, I did not try it because I've had other things that are currrently keeping me busy. I went back to SP1 and am hoping that a SP2 hotfix will be available shortly. Unfortunately, I need a post-SP2 hotfix for Excel that was developed for me. I may have to address the Access problem again myself if I need to use the updated Excel in the near future. MSACCESS 2003 Fails After SP2 Update
I have the fix from Microsoft, although you will need to create or modify your
own MST to resolve the issue. MS have no date for a fix to the MSI package itself. You need to all the following entries to the MST: RegKey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Jet\4.0\Engi nes\Excel\win32 Type: STRING Value: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\msaexp30.dll RegKey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Jet\4.0\Engi nes\Excel\win32old Type: STRING Value: C:\Windows\System32\msexcl40.dll I implemented I slightly more elegant solution by doing an AppSearch for win32 and using this for the win32old value. I also made both keys part of the component that msaexp30.dll resides in. If you're happy modifiying MSI/MST tables through Orca etc, here's the changes: AppSearch table (1 entry): Property: JET4EXCEL Signatu JetWin32Reg RegLocator table (1 entry): Signatu JetWin32Reg Root: 2 Key: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Jet\4.0\Engines\Excel Name: win32 Type: 2 Registry table (2 entries): Registry: Access.SP2Fix1 Root: 2 Key: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Jet\4.0\Engines\Excel Name: win32old Value: [JET4EXCEL] Component: Global_Access_Core Registry: Access.SP2Fix2 Root: 2 Key: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Jet\4.0\Engines\Excel Name: win32 Value: [#MSAEXP30.DLL] Component: Global_Access_Core Regards Jon Abbott Clarksons Plc |

MSACCESS 2003 Fails After SP2 Update
Still waiting for a hotfix to be issued. I think Microsoft believes that
since I submitted the problem, I'm the only person in the world who has experienced it. I've tried to convince them that there are going to by many organizations affected. Michael "Rui Ricardo" wrote: Any news about this issue? |

MSACCESS 2003 Fails After SP2 Update
To revive an old thread.
Since Microsoft is now sending letters out saying that we have to upgrade to SP2 for "legal reasons", are there any updates to this issue, hotfixes, anything? The problem still exists. We are unable to perform this upgrade, well we could hack it, but a machine that has more working parts, or program that has more lines of code is prone to more problems. So if we have to upgrade for "legal reasons" it would be nice for a hotfix to appear, or anything to make this upgrade work like it should. Jon, Are these entries applied to the patched PRO11.msi file? If so after adding these entries can I then perform the upgrade on the client computers without the upgrade asking me to locate the pro11.msi file (and not letting me pick the pro11.msi file on the network)?
