Relative hyperlink to file in Visio 2003 HTML not work in IE7
Here is another twist on a known problem area. This time, the failure is when
using GIF output format. In Visio 2003: 1) Insert into a drawing object, a relative hyperlink to an office file located in the same folder as the drawing file. 2) Ensure the hyperlink will open the selected file (ie, right-click and select link). 3) Save the drawing as a web page using GIF output format and "Organize supporting files in a folder" selected. 4) Open the HTML file using Internet Explorer 7 and try the link (actually, the default is to launch a browser automatically). 5) Unless I am doing something wrong, it will not work. The HTML is looking for the file in the subfolder, not the same folder as the drawing. If the link works for you, please let me know so I can duplicate what you are doing. Thanks Ray Oh, BTW Microsoft, please fix it. ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. Relative hyperlink to file in Visio 2003 HTML not work in IE7
Thanks for looking that up, and you are correct that it is known. However,
that KB article skirts the issue by suggesting it can be "resolved" by not using relative paths. The issue is that they SHOULD ALWAYS work when source and target are in the same folder. There are cases where a relative path is needed to link from a Visio object to a file and the output needs to be a webpage. I just want MS to know this issue is still a problem to its customers. Relative hyperlink to file in Visio 2003 HTML not work in IE7
Hey Ray I feel your pain - I got the same problem.
I think it can be fixed by editing output files manually (PITA I know but I am doing the same thing for ANOTHER visio bug (http://www.microsoft.com/communities...sloc=en-us&p=1) so I guess I am just going to suck it up. Try editing the data.xml file to remove the unwanted path from the file names. I just tried a couple of links and it seemed to work OK... now gotta do it for the other zillion. Ah Visio, so close to giving me what I want and yet.... "Laserray" wrote: Here is another twist on a known problem area. This time, the failure is when using GIF output format.
