mdb file size increases 50% adding one record
I have an Access 2000 database with 14,000 records. Normal size after compact
is 22 mb. Starting Friday, file periodically increases in size by about 50% even if only one record is added; doesn't happen all the time. It just did it with only one user in the system. It seems to occur when data is being typed into a subform when a new record is created. Database that is increasing in size contains only data tables; no forms, no queries, no macros, no reports, no modules. The front end that links to this data only mdb file does not have the size increase problem. Last program change was 3 weeks ago and problem just started last Friday when size increased from 22mb in morining to 750 mb by early afternoon. Program has been in production for 4 years with periodic enhancements and has never exhibited this behavior before. Size of an individual record is small and there are no fields for graphics or OLE objects. Seems like something is going on with Access that I can't see that is making this happen. Any thoughts on what might cause Access to increase this file size so rapidly? -- Michael Cincinnati, OH |

I don't have the answer. But I would recommend that you implement the option
that it compact/repair upon close.... -- NTC "Michael W" wrote: I have an Access 2000 database with 14,000 records. Normal size after compact is 22 mb. NetworkTrade wrote: I don't have the answer. But I would recommend that you implement the option that it compact/repair upon close.... Compact On Close doesn't work on back ends to which a FE links; one would have to open the BE directly to force it to work, so it's not an option. Michael, This is not guaranteed to solve your problem, but you might want to give it a shot anyway: create a new, blank database and import all tables from the old back end. It will take sometime, but will yield a new, clean copy of it, which might cure the problem with some luck. HTH, Nikos |
