File errors reading Japanese-based files
When I try to open an Excel file created in Japanese
Excel 97 with Excel 2000 on Windows XP I get an error message File error: data may have been lost The file opens but does not display the Japanese character set. IME is installed and the Office Language Settings have been configured. Word documents will open and display properly and the same Excel file will open and display properly in the ExcelViewer application. The Office installation has been patched up to date. Thanks! |

For the record...
This is NOT a compatibility problem - there is a machine in the building configured the same way that can open these files. There are no obvious configuration differences between the machines/applications.
What am I missing? |

For the record...
Go to tools options General and uncheck ignore other applicatiosn
Other than that, since there is no clue as to what you are talking about, you need to expand what your problem is "Zane" wrote in message ... : This is NOT a compatibility problem - there is a machine in the building configured the same way that can open these files. Non-specific error message
None of the worksheet options makes a difference - it
would be nice if the error that appears when the sheet opens was a little more specific. File error: data may have been lost is pretty weak. |

File errors reading Japanese-based files
Apparently the install order of the language support=20
files is critical - for Excel at least. After several=20 reinstalls of Office and the ie_ja.exe (install the=20 ie_ja.exe file first!), I can now open the files without=20 the error message. The only problem is the japanese text=20 will not display correctly, so that would mean the=20 original font is not supported (or properly recognized)=20 in Excel. But again, the file opens and views properly=20 with the XLViewer application. At least I am one step=20 closer. -----Original Message----- I have the same error... files from the =E7=B5=B1=E8=A8^=E5=B1?... . |
