Default First page headers and page border

Word 2003

Hello Gurus:

I have just recently begun encountering a situation that is defying all of
my attempts thus far for a resolution:

A particular user has requested that a header appear on only the very first
page of her contracts in addition to a page border for the first page only.

Through the instructions found in Suzanne Barnhill’s (“Letterhead For a
Multi-Page Letter”) I was able to get the header to appear solely on the
first page until such time that the contract calls for a new section break
somewhere further along within the document.

Upon entering a section break, the header from the first page seems to want
to replicate itself as the header for the newly created section.

I receive an identical outcome with regard to the page border on the first
page; once a new section break is inserted, the page border will appear on
the first page of the newly created section, although in the *Borders and
Shading* menu I have indicated that I would like for the border to *Apply to*
- *This section – First page only*

Any light that anyone is able to shed on either of the above situations
would be greatly appreciated.

Thanking you in advance, I remain…

Very truly yours – Rod

Default First page headers and page border

In Section 2, disable "Different first page," and you will get the primary
Header for all of Section 2. That may or may not take care of the page
border as well; if not, with the insertion point in Section 2, go to Format
| Borders and Shading, make sure the "Apply to" setting is "This Section,"
and remove the border.

Suzanne:

Thank you so very much.

Over a period of time, I tried just about every combination I could think
of; including your solution. However, I assumed that there was a more
automatic process and/or setting for accomplishing the same goal.

I appreciate your response and the fact that you Gurus always seem able to
make yourselves available for those of us in need.

Rod
