Default outlook cannot find email editor

I just loaded Outlook 2002 SP3 on a new HP Pavilion. I had been using it on
a Dell without problems. Now I cannot get it to use Word as the editor. I
set it in Tools-Options-Mail Format, but then when I try to create a new
email or even forward/Reply, Outlook says it cannot locate Word and goes to
Rich Text. It says Word is busy or could not be found.

Did you install Office XP? Outlook does not come with Word. You must install
the exact same version of Office with Word or Word to use as editor.

Yes I had. I found out by trial and error that after settting Word as the
default I had to close Outlook and reopen it. That made the change stick.
Go figure.

Thanks

Jack/ Mary,

I have the same problem, but with Outlook 2002. I tried Jack's reset but it
didn't hold....still shows busy or not available.

Thanks,
Martin

Default outlook cannot find email editor

Outlook 2002 can only use Word 2002 as the email editor. Outlook 2007 only
has a single (new) email editor which is based on Word but does not need to
have it installed (only for some specific features).
Office 2007 Home and Student does not contain Outlook 2007, so if you want
to upgrade to Outlook 2007 as well, see if you can return Office 2007 H&S
and get a suite that also includes Outlook 2007.
