Area Code Format in Contacts (Outlook 2003)
When entering a 7-digit phone number in an Outlook 2002 Contact, the default
area code and phone number formatting are added as soon as I tab to the next field. In other words, entering 5551234 resolves to (585) 555-1234. In Outlook 2003, whatever I type in the phone number field is entered unchanged - if I type in 5551234, that's what I end up with. No area code or formatting are added. Having searched TechNet and the Office web site unsuccessfully, how do I get Outlook 2003 to format phone numbers as the prior versions did? TIA. |

Set your dialing location correctly.

Area Code Format in Contacts (Outlook 2003)
Thanks, Russ. Are you referring to a setting in Outlook? The area code is
set properly in control panel/phone and modem (WinXP). This worked on my desktop computer in Outlook 2002, but stopped working when I upgraded to 2003. I have about 10 computers running 2002 (all work normally), and 4 running 2003 (1 works, 3 don't). I can't figure out any setting that could allow this to work on the one computer or not on the other three. "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote in message ... Area Code Format in Contacts (Outlook 2003)
That's the place, and that's all it takes.
Of course, all bets are off with upgrade installations. I never upgrade, or if I do, I always create a new profile from scratch to fix what the upgrade process breaks. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Dave Nickason [SBS MVP]" wrote in message ... Area Code Format in Contacts (Outlook 2003)
Thanks for your help. FYI, what fixed this was going into the phone
properties and changing the area code, then changing it back. "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote in message ... That's the place, and that's all it takes.
