Default # of contacts in my address book

hi,
i seem to have forgotten how to display the number of contacts in my address
book. i remember there is a view where it says how many in a corner of the
screen?

If you go into the Contacts folder you should see the number of contacts in
the status bar at the bottom of the window.

Thank you - that's what I thought, but for some reason it is not displayed
there . . .
