Default TREO 650 and email question

I've looked over all of these posts and not found the answers to my questions
either that, or I'm just not understanding the experienced computer lingo - I
would appreciate any help you could offer.

1. Is it possible to use Microsoft Access with my TREO 650?? And how user
friendly is it? Can I also program it to send and receive emails from Access
on the TREO?

2. Is it possible to send and receive emails directly from my new database
in Access? Also, is it possible to program it to keep copies of all of my
correspondence with each client/contact??

Thanks in advance for any help.

Default TREO 650 and email question

Hi Charlie,

1. Is it possible to use Microsoft Access with my TREO 650??

No. While a TREO 650 can apparently run utilities for viewing Word, Excel
and PowerPoint according to this link:

http://web.palm.com/products/smartph...00.client=true

I'm fairly certain it cannot run MS Access because it is not running the
Windows operating system.

2. Is it possible to send and receive emails directly from my new database
in Access? Also, is it possible to program it to keep copies of all of my
correspondence with each client/contact??

Yes, it is possible to send e-mail from Access. You can also read received
e-mail by using automation to tie into Outlook. However, building this
capability into an Access project is not necessarily something a beginner
should attempt. I have seen a demonstration of an Access application that
included this functionality. If you are really interested in pursuing this,
send me a private e-mail, and I will attempt to put you in contact with the
developer of this application.

Default TREO 650 and email question

Access is a software written to work with MSWindows (2k/XP) and although I've
searched I still don't know if your TREO uses either the Symbian or Windows
CE operating system.

There are alternative software programs that possibly work with your TREO.

Search the web for SprintDB, Data on the Run, or the easier approach of
XSForms from www.grandasoft.com

Actually, Pocket PCs can't run Access either.

You might find the following interesting reading:

http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/wlg/3300
http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/wlg/3358

In addition to the the options mentioned in the second article, I'm also
aware of Pendragon Forms
http://www.pendragon-software.com/

Pendragon Forms will work with either Palms or Pocket PCs. I'm sure many of
the other ones will as well, but I don't know which.

Default TREO 650 and email question

Hi Doug - thank you for you're quick reply!! So, just to clarify:

Yes, I can take my Access database on the road with me thru my TREO if I use
one of these programs??? (ie: Data-on-the-go) I just want to be sure,
before I go to the trouble of building a database only to find out that I can
only use it on my home computer.

Default TREO 650 and email question

Hi Tom,
Thank you for replying to my question. Just one more question if you
wouldn't mind. You have said that I can join up my Outlook Express with
Access (but it is very difficult) - can I hold off on doing this until I have
my database up and running, or is this something that I have to do right
away? Also, if I am able to take Outlook express with me on my Treo -
wouldn't it then also transfer to my Access database automatically?

My apologies, I'm trying to reply to 3 people at the same time and getting a
little confused. I was sent to the following link with someone else who
replied to my question and if you scroll halfway down the page, it says
something about "Taking your Access Data with you" - any comments??

Hi Charlie,

I said that you can use automation with Outlook, not Outlook Express. You
would have to switch to using Outlook as your e-mail client first, since it
has a programmable object model. Outlook Express does not offer this
capability.

Hi Jose,
Thank you for replying. I have I believe 3 conversations going at once
right now, so I apologize in advance if there is any confusion in my
responses. I can't believe 3 different people are attempting to help me out
- usually you go to a discussion forum and it could be days before 1 person
responds - so thank you to all of you.

Sorry Jose... I figured I would get that out before I replied to your post.
That "Data on the Run" that you are talking about, so that will enable me to
use my Access database on my Treo???
