Default How center page numbers/WORD. Stuck on left/Insert icon no good

How do I get my page numbers in a WORDdocument to go back to the center?
They originally came there when I clicked on the Insert icon and chose the
format in that little box. (Which showed samples, etc.) Somehow I've hit
something accidentally that's gotten them STUCK on the left side (though
they're still at the top) and I can't find a way to MOVE THEM OVER. When I
try doing the Insert thing again, the computer just ignores it. In the
center there's only - - Of course I can always put them in with a pen after
I get my letter printed out I spose. But I'd rather learn what to do! I'LL BE
AMAZED IF ANYBODY ANSWERS THIS!

Sincerely,
P.S. The page numbers are also very faint compared
to the rest of the narrative.

If you used Insert | Page Numbers, go back and delete the numbers you
inserted; see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting...lyIndented.htm
for instructions on doing it properly. When you're doing this, you'll have
the header pane open. In the header paragraph, either press Ctrl+E to center
the paragraph or press Tab once to get to the center tab stop. Then click on
the Insert Page Number button on the Header and Footer toolbar. You can
treat this PAGE field just as you would any other text; you can format the
font and paragraph as you would anything else; you can add other text if you
like, etc.
