Default Disappearing photos on a word document

It sounds as though the graphics file type has been associated with Word.
Right click the image and select open with ... Select your usual
viewer/editor and check the box for 'always open with this application'

You seem to be quite knowledgeable so perhaps you can help me with my
blank graphics question. When I insert a jpg, a piece of clipart, or
basically any graphical element into word, a blank box the size of
the graphic appears. No matter what I try (printing, going to print
preview, giving it time to load) NOTHING works to show the contents
of that graphic. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling MS Office,
and the problem persists. Any ideas?

This appears to be attributable to the graphics driver with recent
ATI display adapters and the Intel® 82915G/82910GL Express Chipset
Family causing particular problems.

In the case of the latter, the latest driver
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...ProductID=1764
appears to fix the problem. DON'T TRY TO USE THIS DRIVER WITH ANY
OTHER CHIPSET/ADAPTER.

There are drivers available also from ATI that correct this issue
with some their adapter cards.

If you have the problem with a different display adapter and are
sure you are using the latest driver, then try reducing the
display's hardware acceleration.

Graphics that disappear during scrolling are a symptom of an
overworked (or underpowered) video card.

If you can't install a more powerful card, you may get some
improvement from the following: Right-click a blank area of the
Windows desktop and select Properties from the popup menu. Click
the Settings tab of the dialog, and click the Advanced button. In
the next dialog, click the Troubleshoot tab. Move the Hardware
Acceleration slider a notch or two toward the None end, and try
Word again. Keep trying different settings until either you get
Word to display graphics properly or you hit the None setting.

I lose links when Word closes (unexpectedly) and the recovered document does
not retain the links. I spend lots of time reinserting, closing, losing, and
reinserting. How can I retain the links to my photos or (even better) how can
I keep Word 07 from closing suddenly?

Word 2007 is quite stable, so you need to identify what is causing it to
fall over regularly. Start with
http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm then
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/...artingWord.htm.
The disappearing photos are probably related to the display driver. See if
there's an update available and/or reduce its hardware acceleration.

I will check to see that all of these issues have been addressed. I agree, 07
is very stable on my two computers at home, but I have a lot of trouble when
working on our network. I am the only one running 07 but the reason for the
new computer and new Office 07 version was the frequent problems I had with
Word. I have even connected to a different data jack without much
improvement. I work with the same documents at home with no problems. Our
tech guy has tested the network hubs and my latest diagnostic test was the
new cable, all to no avail.

Is it possible that my version of Word 07 has become corrupted becaue of all
these problems?
