When you say "can't get to the Format Picture option", do you mean the option
is not on the right-click menu, or that the option is grayed out on the
right-click menu? Try left-clicking once on the image, then on the menu bar
at the top of the screen, left-click on Format | Picture or Object | Layout,
and choose "Square" or "Tight" | OK.

The "picture placeholders" box should be UNchecked... that's usually why a

need to move the image by dragging with the mouse, right-click on the image,

is NOT "Inline with text"... then you will be able to drag the image.

I don't use AOL, but I'm not sure why AOL would be any different from MSN as
far copying and pasting web content. An alternative approach in AOL would be
to right-click on an image, then "save as" to a folder on your hard drive
(not to your desktop). Then in Word you can click on Insert | Picture | From
file, browse to the folder where the saved image is, select the image, and
insert the image into the Word document.

That worked great as far as letting me move the picture around. What I found
out is that I'm able to copy and paste from the web as long as I'm loged onto
the compoter under my name. As soon as I switch users to my daughter's name
then I'm no longer able to do anything. Can she have inadvertently changed
some settings that she is prohibited her from doing this?

The only way I can save a file is as ART or BMT.
The weird thing is that I can copy and paste as long as I'm loged in under
my name. If I switch users to my daughters name then I can no longer paste.
When I do the only thing that comes up is an empty box with the eight drag
handles around the parimeter.

I don't know why this is happening, but it seems that a possible solution
would be for you to save the file using your profile, to a location your
daughter can use.

I can copy and paste the image if it's small
7349 bytes
139x139 pixels
The problem is when I try to enlarge it in Word it loses its detail.
If I enlarge it first
63808 bytes
720x720 pixels
It will paste and come out as an empty box.
Also no matter how I try to save it get a box asking how I want it formated
and no matter what option I choose I receive an error message stating it can
not be copied. Thanks so much for any help.

I don't know how to insert a link, but if you go to www.google.com,select
IMAGES and type in 'spiderman'.The first image on the top line is the one my
daughter is trying to paste. Double click this image them select 'see full

You insert a link by clicking on the URL in the address bar of your browser
and pressing Ctrl+C. You then press Ctrl+V to paste it into a message. In
this case, that is
http://stockimg.free.fr/wallpaperlin.../spiderman.jpg. If I
right-click on that image and choose Save Picture As, I have no trouble
saving spiderman.jpg to any desired folder. If you can't do that, have you
tried clearing the cache as I suggested?

FWIW, you don't have to double-click an image in Google Images results; a
single click suffices.

The only way I can save a file is as ART or BMT.
The weird thing is that I can copy and paste as long as I'm

loged
in
under
my name. If I switch users to my daughters name then I can no

longer
paste.
When I do the only thing that comes up is an empty box with

the
eight
drag
handles around the parimeter.

When you paste a picture from the Web, you're just pasting a

link to
the
picture's online location. There are two ways around this:

1. The quick and dirty way is to paste the picture, then

select
it
and
press
Ctrl+Shift+F9 immediately to unlink it. This embeds the

picture
in
the
document.

2. A better way, which makes the picture available to other
documents
(and
to this one should anything untoward happen to it) is to

save
the
picture in
your My Pictures folder. Right-click on the picture on the

Web
page
and
choose Save Image As. You should be able to save it as a

JPEG or
GIF
(whichever it is). If .bmp is your only option, then you

need to
clear
your
file cache. In Internet Explorer, select Tools | Internet

Options.
On
the
General tab, under "Temporary Internet Files," click on

Delete
Files...

The "picture placeholders" box should be UNchecked...

that's
usually
why a
pasted image appears as an empty box with eight handles

around
it.
If
you
need to move the image by dragging with the mouse,

right-click
on
the
image,
then left-click on Format Picture | Layout, and choose a

wrapping
option
that
is NOT "Inline with text"... then you will be able to drag

the
image.

I don't use AOL, but I'm not sure why AOL would be any

different
from
MSN
as
far copying and pasting web content. An alternative

approach
in
AOL
would
be
to right-click on an image, then "save as" to a folder on

your
hard
drive
(not to your desktop). Then in Word you can click on

Insert |
Picture
|
From
file, browse to the folder where the saved image is,

select
the
image,
and
insert the image into the Word document.

All the boxes you said to check were already checked.

What I
found
out
was
that I am able to paste the images into Word when I'm on

line
with
MSN
Explorer, but I can't do it when my daughter is on line

with
AOL.
What's
your
next suggestion. Also maybe you can answer this

question.
Why
can't
I
move
the image around the page once it's pasted into the Word
document?

The first thing your daughter did (right-click, copy,

paste)
should
work. To
change the empty box into the actual image, in Word

click
on
Tools
|
Options
| View tab | uncheck the "Picture placeholders" box |

check
the
"Drawings"
box | Print tab | check the "Drawing objects" box |

OK.

This is actually my daughter's problem. Let me tell

you
it
in
detail. She
goes onto Google and searches for an image of

Spiderman
for
an
English
report. She found the image she wanted, right

clicked,
selcted
copy,
and the
tried to paste it to her Word document. Nothing

happened.
She
just
got an
empty box with the eight handles around its

perimeter.
If
she
tries
to save
the image to desk top, it can only be saved as a

Paint
Shop
Photo
and then
when you try and insert that file into the Word

document
a
'Convert
File' box
comes up and no matter what option she selects the

image
won't
appear on the
page. She's working with Word 2003 and the operating

system
is
Windows XP.
She was always able to do it on our old

computer(Microsoft
Word
2000
&
Windows 2000). What are we doing wrong. By the way

thanks so
much
for taking
the time and helping us out.

Can you explain with substantially more detail

what
you

trying
to
do? What is the source of the image you are

trying to
copy...
a
Word
file, a website, or ??? What happens when you try

to
save
as
jpeg?

If the jpeg is on your hard drive, then in Word

then
insert
