Microsoft Office Document Scanning stopped working
I have a Microtek ScanMaker 6800 that used to work properly with Microsoft
Document scanning. I had to do a system restore and now everytime I go to use the software, I get an error dialog that says: The scan failed because of a scanner hardware error. Feeder may be jammed. Please correct the error and scan again. I don't have a sheet feeder so the error is incorrect. I get the same result regardless if I use the WIA driver or the Microtek driver. I am running MS Office Professional SP2. I have tried the following to resolve the issue but it still hasn't been resolved: 1. Remove the Microtek drivers under safe mode and reinstalled them. 2. Remove MS Office and reinstalled it. 3. Disabling WIA service to stop it from creating a driver for the scanner. 4. Upgraded to newer versions of Microtek drivers 5. Switched USB ports on the scanner 6. Swithed from USB to Firewire for the scanner interface I have searched the support.microsoft.com newsgroups and haven't found anything that closely matches this error. Previous newsgroup searches indicated that the error is caused by a bug in office where it selects the wrong driver (WIA) because both the Microtek and WIA driver are named the same. Does anybody know how to resolve this or is a patch available from Microsoft. Its a feature I use all the time in Office. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks Jacques Giraud |

It may have options for manually setting optional hardware accessories. If the sheet feeder is marked as "installed", the scanner driver will probably probe that, and give an error when it gets no response. If the accessory list is not maintained within Windows, the list must be transferred from the scanner. Either the feeder is automatically sensed by the scanner or feeder presence is selected by a front panel function. Search for reset options on the scanner. |

There is no option in Office Document Scanning to set hardware options
related to the scanner. If the scanner has a sheet feeder, it is detected and you can choose to use it or not. This scanner never had a sheet feeder and the option is not available to be checked. Hi Jacques,
There are a couple of things you may want to try. 1. Check to see that if your Scanner device requires a function to enable its front panel buttons (if any) that that utility/app is running to be sure the scanner is 'seen. 2. Check in an app such as http://irfanview.com that you can acquire the scanner source and do a test scan successfully. 3. In MS Office Document scanning try to create a new 'preset' and see if the scanner is available to it with the driver you're using. It is possible that pieces of both scanner driver files are still being accessed. Have you tried using a TWAIN driver? FWIW, using a system restore point can do some odd things to Office. What version/build of Word (from Help=About...) are you using? ======== "Jacques Giraud" wrote in message ... Microsoft Office Document Scanning stopped working
Hi Bob,
Thanks for your suggestions. 1. The scanner works perfectly in every other application except MS Document scanning. There is even a WIA driver for the scanner that also works properly. I have tested it with Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat and several other graphics applications. 2. The application (ScannerFinder) is working fine and when I press a button I can configure what its supposed to do and it does it. 3. The version of Word that I am using is 11.6568.6568 SP2. Hi Jacques,
Did you try using the TWAIN driver and setting up a new preset or modifying an existing one in MS Office Document Scanning? ======== "Jacques Giraud" wrote in message ... Microsoft Office Document Scanning stopped working
I have the exact same problem with a canon PIXMA MP780 Multifunctional
device. The MODI scanning works perfectly on my tablet PC with and without using the sheet feeder but i get exactly the same error as you with my desktop PC. The scanner works perfectly in all other applications on my desktop PC and Tablet PC. Is there any known solution? I have had the MODI scanning working perfectly on this same desktop PC before a complete system format and reinstall. Any suggestions? I have tried everything that has previously been mentioned in this forum? "Jacques Giraud" wrote: I have a Microtek ScanMaker 6800 that used to work properly with Microsoft Document scanning.
