Default Row with column titles over messages is missing in Inbox

In other email subfolders, this row is present with symbols for the first few
columns in a message's information and then From Subject Received Size. Now,
on this Outlook installation, there are two columns: the first says "Arranged
by Date" and the second one says "Newest on top." We have no idea how this
got set and can't seem to find the way to get it back. We've done a reset, a
reinstallation, detect and repair, patches, updates. Appreciate any
suggestions.

Thanks,
Cathy

Near as I can tell, you are describing the default view for Outlook 2003
when the reading pane is displayed to the right. Do you get the desired
result when selecting View Reading Pane Bottom or Off?

The problem remains when changing the Reading Pane. Yes, you're right ...
it's the default view with the column titles reading across a row above the
messages. Any other thoughts?

This is all controlled by views. For example, if you start Outlook with the
/cleanviews command line switch it will delete all custom views are reset
the built-in ones back their defaults. From there, the user can select View
Arrange By to pick another built-in view or use View Arrange By

Current View Define views to edit the built-ins or create new views.

All I can tell you is that your original description sounds like the user
wanted the reading pane at the bottom or off because that is the quickest
wat to get the From, Subject, Received, Size, .etc columns to show because
of the way Outlook was designed to deal with screen real estate space.

If you click ViewReading PaneBottom or Off, you should have the column
headers you seek. It works for me.

Right click your Outlook icon, left click on Properties. In the Target field,
press End to get to the end of the field. Press space and then type
/cleanview. Click on OK and then open Outlook. It should be OK now. You can
then go back to the icon properties and remove /cleanview. Or not.

Do you not have an Outlook icon in the QuickLaunch toolbar on the taskbar to
the right of Start? If not, try pasting and running this in the Run , Open
field: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" /cleanview
