Default "file in Use" when opening xls from SPS site.

Hi there,
Recently we installed SP3 for Office XP. After that users experience the
following problem:
When the want to open an .xls file from a sharepoint portal, it opens
without a problem. After closing and reopening, Excel prompts that the file
is in use, and you can only use a 'read only' copy.
Users with Office 2003 don't have the problem. anybody has an idea what is
going on? There are no files in use(I checked it)
Please help or point me in the right direction.

Regards,

Oscar T.
