is there a way to print a check register book?
"JoAnn Paules" wrote in message ... I write maybe half of what you do, if that. I do everything online except for depositing the occasional check I receive. It's really hard to get a checking account now. Because of Homeland Security (for one thing) or maybe it's the Patriot Act. You have to be there in person to get an account (you know, terrorists might open a bank account ) and then you need some high credit score. When we moved back to VT in 1997 I called a bank, they sent me forms I sent them back with a deposit and it was waiting when we got here. Three years ago, my daughter moved here from FL (she had a Bank of America account there but they don't have them in VT, nearest one is 80 miles away) she couldn't get a checking account. She was buying money orders to send to her BOA online account, or putting money in my acct and I'd give her checks. They kept putting her off. Said if she openned a savings account and used it for a few months. She did. They kept putting her off... About a year later she went to a credit union and they gave her one, no problem. She has checks, debit card, etc. She closed her savings account at the bank and put it in the credit union. Wasn't just one bank but all she tried here. Banks are under different guidelines (goverenment) or something. I wonder if the REAL terrorists are laughing at us? is there a way to print a check register book?
"Mary Sauer" wrote in message ... Our local water utility company will not accept electronic payments, but our bank spends their own $.39 to mail a check to them. Wal-Mart has quit accepting checks, they only use a check for the account and routing numbers. I still have to write checks for all the children's various gifts. The grocery store I go to does that too, with the check. I date and sign it and they run it through and hand it back. I'm just getting so I can remember how to use the debit card though. I never can figure out first try which way it goes. I can use it online pretty good, though (LOL) I remember long ago, there were rumors that "in the future money will be obsolete and people will use plastic cards". The first time I saw a grocery store scanner (on a segment on the news)I was amazed. But, we had heard for years that was the point of the upc product code being put on everything. So far, we don't have to have it tattooed on us (at birth) but it's possible. Maybe there's coding in the "shots" that babies supposedly have to get at birth (if they are born in a hospital anyway) I sometimes have thought, what happens if something comes along that replaces computers? I don't know what (if I did, I'd be the new Bill Gates, in on the ground floor) but you never know. -- Mary Sauer MSFT MVP http://office.microsoft.com/ http://msauer.mvps.org/ news://msnews.microsoft.com "Uncle Grumpy" wrote in message ... I found this
http://www.cyberlepsy.com/Downloads/...20register.pdf
I've been trying various ways of printing it, different settings with the printer. Maybe it could be imported or copy/pasted from the pdf either directly to Publisher or via jpg or something? If I could get it in Publisher, on the correct size page (landscape setup) maybe 2 to a page, and reversed on the other side (duplex printing) I might end up with something that would print out a lot of pages, I could cut in half, fold and staple together? Setting things up so they come out the way I'd like, with the printer, Publisher, sizes, orientation on the paper, etc is something mind boggling for me (in any situation) Reminds me of trying to solve Rubek's Cube, like all the different ways and maybe hitting on it by accident. I'll update if I figure it out, or maybe someone here will consider it a challenge. it's beyond getting a check register now, and gone into CHALLENGE. ~ Carrie "Carrie" wrote in message ... I can tell you that I didn't have to jump thru hoops last year when I opened
new new checking accounts. I really just wanted two small savings accounts but the bank rep said that I'd be better off with checking accounts. Both are tied to our names so I can go online and access all of my data with one log-in. My husband was not with me when I started them so I couldn't add his name to the account. It's been like that for years - many years prior to 9/11. We recently added him just in case something should happen to me. To tie this all back to your original post, Publisher is *not* the right program. Money, Accounting Express, Quicken - yes. Use your copy of Publisher to make cards, newsletters, posters, etc and you'll be a much happier person. I think the point about my daughter and checking accounts was she had moved there from FL and the bank she had in FL doesn't have any branches in VT. So they didn't seem to want that as "credit". They told her (and me, I called once and asked if she could open a checking account if I put my name on it, too, but they said they still had to go by her) it was because of homeland security. She would have to open a savings account and "use it" (like put in money, buy money orders from the bank to pay bills, deposit, etc to show it was active). The woman I talked to said it didn't apply to small town banks like in VT, but the rules were still there, and they had to follow them. She said they were afraid terrorists in foreign countries would use fake names to set up accounts and deposit large amounts of money and keep it there until it was needed for something. She seemed to think it was odd herself, and said "maybe it's a big city thing" My daughter had moved from FL, and the bank she had there wasn't in VT (where she had bought a house and moved to) she was divorced and banks before FL had been in her husband's name, too. It was just a hassle, she found the credit union much different. Now she is established (at the credit union) she probably could easily open a checking account at the bank, but now she doesn't want one there. Anyway, I have decided making a check register doesn't work in Publisher, I thought I could use one of the booklet (pages and folds, etc) templates, etc. I ended up printing out the pdf of the register page. scanning it to my computer, saving it as a jpg, then after finding out it didn't work good in Publisher I just printed out pages of it (on both sides) cut them to size, stapled them together with a piece of cardstock on the back. It worked BUT, I think I will aim at getting a bunch of them from the bank to have on hand from now on. It was just a hassle, she found the credit union much | different. Now she is established (at the credit union) she probably could | easily open a checking account at the bank, but now she doesn't want one | there. | | Anyway, I have decided making a check register doesn't work in Publisher, I | thought I could use one of the booklet (pages and folds, etc) templates, | etc. | | I ended up printing out the pdf of the register page. scanning it to my | computer, saving it as a jpg, then after finding out it didn't work good in | Publisher I just printed out pages of it (on both sides) cut them to size, | stapled them together with a piece of cardstock on the back. | | It worked BUT, I think I will aim at getting a bunch of them from the | bank to have on hand from now on. | | | | | JoAnn Paules | Microsoft MVP - Publisher | | How to ask a question | http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375 | | | | "Carrie" wrote in message | ... | | "JoAnn Paules" wrote in message | ... | I write maybe half of what you do, if that. I do everything online except | for depositing the occasional check I receive. | | It's really hard to get a checking account now. Because of Homeland | Security (for one thing) or maybe it's the Patriot Act. You have to be | there in person to get an account (you know, terrorists might open a bank | account ) and then you need some high credit score. When we moved back to | VT in 1997 I called a bank, they sent me forms I sent them back with a | deposit and it was waiting when we got here. Three years ago, my daughter | moved here from FL (she had a Bank of America account there but they | don't have them in VT, nearest one is 80 miles away) she couldn't get a | checking account. She was buying money orders to send to her BOA online | account, or putting money in my acct and I'd give her checks. They kept | putting her off. Said if she openned a savings account and used it for a | few months. She did. They kept putting her off... About a year later she | went to a credit union and they gave her one, no problem. She has checks, | debit card, etc. She closed her savings account at the bank and put it in | the credit union. Wasn't just one bank but all she tried here. Banks are | under different guidelines (goverenment) or something. | | I wonder if the REAL terrorists are laughing at us? (I was reading on | another group that proms in some places are using metal detectors and | breathilizers now). | | | | -- | | JoAnn Paules | Microsoft MVP - Publisher | | How to ask a question | http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375 | | | | "Rob Giordano (Crash)" wrote in | message ... | absolutely. i think we only physically write out 10 checks a year now! | it's great at tax time too. however, my bank only makes available the | last | 90 days of history, so i have to remember to download my register | quarterly. | | not t mention the money saved on stamps. | | | "Mary Sauer" wrote in message | ... | | My banking is online, I sort of keep track with Money 97. I've tried to set the pages smaller, | thinking | | if | | | I printed 4-6 smaller versions of it one page I could cut them | apart | and | | put | | | them together, but they only print one (small) to a page. | | | | | | This might not seem like a big deal, but I don't have a car and | getting | | | something like this from my bank is a major project (I ask | people and | they | | | forget. I could probably call the bank and ask them to mail me | one) | One | | | comes with a box of checks when I order them but at some point | is | filled | | up. | | | I got the idea of printing it myself. Like several pages, with | checkbook | | | size "pages" printed several times on it- that could be cut | apart and | | folder | | | (maybe with a staple) to form a check register book. | | | | | | If I had a blank page from one, I could scan it, and possibly | figure out | | | how to set it up on a page (my printer has two sided duplex | printing) | so | | | each page could be cut and folded to make several pages of the | register | | | book. | | | | | | I know, I can cut plain paper to size and fold it to make one, | but I | | enjoy | | | a challenge- learning experience, and thought if I could find a | set | up for | | | this (with the lines, squares, spaces for check number, amounts, | etc) | I'd | | | like to know. | | | | | | Thanks, | | | Carrie

is there a way to print a check register book?
you probably made a manual entry in a cell that had a formula in it.
"Carrie" wrote in message ... | I started this one other time, setting it up in Excel someone told me the | formula to put in for the calculations. But, as it moved down the sheet I | didn't know how to do it, or the formula stopped working- something messed | it up and I gave up. | | I like having the check register, maybe also, in my checkbook so I can | remember to write things down and keep track of where I am at any given | time. If I wait till I go on the computer I'll probably forget. | | | | | "Rob Giordano (Crash)" wrote in message | ... | personally...I'd do this in Excel, then you could do calculations as well. | or..dump the paper and get Quick Books :-)
