Default "object is missing" error in send/receive POP3

I am setting up Outlook 2003. Earthlink (my ISP)has verified that my POP3
settings are correct. When Outlook tests settings, the error message
indicates taht the mail server has been found but no response received.
Earthlink has checked the settings twice, finding no Outlook setup errors.
Any ideas?
