Default i cant change the format of the date when referencing another cell

In cell a1 on sheet one I have a date in this format sept-28,04.
but on sheet2 in cell b1 I entered =sheet1!(A1) or however the formula goes
I'm sure you know the proper formula, However it returns the same format as
sheet 1 despite my request in the cell format to display a different date
format. I have tried all the different formats but it stays the same as the
one on sheet 1. Ultimately I would like to turn the format for sheet 2 into
Tuesday, Septmeber 28, 2004. Any ideas on how to do this?

Thank You
Brian

Are you sure you have a date in Sheet1!A1? If you have a date that Excel
recognizes as a date
you should be able to use a custom format like dddd, mmmm dd, yyyy
sept-28,04 is text thus the result, just use 09/28/04 and format as
mmm-dd,yy
if you type in sept-28,04 it is seen as text

Was unable to replicate your error ..

What I did ..

In Sheet1
-------------
Typed a date: "28 Sep 2004" into A1

Formatted A1 as custom: mmm-dd,yy

A1 displayed: Sep-28,04

In Sheet2
------------
Put in A1: =Sheet1!A1

Formatted A1 as custom: dddd, mmmm dd, yyyy

A1 displayed: Tuesday, September 28, 2004
