Default New mail in In-Box is deleted after reading and closing . . .

n my "In-Box" again as unreadEvery time I open a message in my "In-Box", read
it, and then "Close" it . . . it gets deleted.

Then, every few weeks or so, those "deleted" messages show up in my In-Box
as "unread", but with their original "Date Sent"!!

Can anyone rationally explain this, and provide a resolution???

Thanx in advance . . .

it sounds like you are using a 'hide read messages' view. What version of
outlook and are you opening the messages or using the reading pane?

I am using Outlook 2000 / SP3, and I do not use the reading pane, but rather
open the message to read it.

Go to 'View|Arrange By|Current View'. If the selection is set to "Unread
Messages in This Folder", any message you open and read will "disappear"
from your Inbox; in reality, it will not move anywhere nor is it deleted,
just hidden because it is now marked read and the view setting, "Unread
Messages", prevents it from being visible.

Hal,

Thank you very much. I figured it was something "simple", but obviously I'm
a little simpler!! It's back to "normal" now!

Thanx again,
Dave
