Numbering
I use styles for numbering lists. I create 7 styles for numbering. But how can I create more numbering styles in one document and have them all start at number 1?

Numbering
You can have as many numbered styles as you like, but if you want outline
numbering, you're limited to 9 levels. To set this up correctly, see http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numb...Numbering.html. From your reference to 7, however, I suspect you're using the List Gallery in the Format | Bullets and Numbering dialog. This is the *worst* way to apply numbering because you're not applying a style but only a number format, and, as you've seen, you can see only 7 of them at a time. Instead, select a style (the List Number series is a good place to start) and modify the numbering format of that style. Whenever you want to apply that number format, use that style. Although Word 2002 and above allow you to restart lists fairly reliably, if you want them to restart automatically, you need to be using outline numbering (see above). -- Suzanne S. Numbering
Thank you, Suzanne.
I actually use numbering with styles. I made myself 7 numbering styles, using the 7 different numbering formats on the dialog 'Format - Styles - Edit - Format - Numbering'. I thought that if I used one of these formats, my next list would increment from the other list using the same format. But, is it really so that I can use the same format several times, and every time having the list start at no 1? |
