Default How can contacts be used to sort with multiple categories?

I am trying to organize our extensive list of contacts to sort using various
categories. We are trying to use the contacts as a master list when searching
for a particular service in a geographic location ie: A plumber in the Albany
area. We would need it broken down by Vendor type, service, & geographic
location (zip). Does anyone have experience with multiple categories in their
contact list? Does anyone know Outlooks sorting mechanism criteria?
Thanks for any suggestions or info!

You can't sort by category at all, but you can group by category, and you can
have multiple levels of grouping. Go into Define Views and then click the
Group By button to see your options.

Ok. Now I'm not sure how to set this up. I will select contacts for a
particular group. Do I put them in multiple groups? Will it sort multiple
groups? ie: vendors, plumbers, etc.

Well, you could set up multiple custom views to be able to group by different
categories in a particular order. For example, one view might be called "By
Vendor" and you could group by vendor type, then by zip code. You could also
have a view called "By Zip Code" which groups first by zip code, then by
vendor type.

Ok- getting very close now. In the Custom View Organizer, I added a view
specifiying the category, then the fields I wanted. However, it doesn't
retain the fields I selected once I back out of contacts and go back to it.
Can I make OL save my fields? (Otherwise this is too cumbersome.)

That's odd, it should save all your view settings. Are you starting from
scratch with a new view or copying an older one?
