Default how do I create new email address for laptop

I got a laptop from Santa, have it networked with desktop, but want to be able to email my desktop(downstairs office) from my laptop (upstairs). I want a separate email address for the laptop, but haven't been able to create it in the "add a new email account". All's fine except during the settings testing, I'm unable to logon onto the incoming mail server (POP3). The only difference between my current email address and the one I'm trying to create for the laptop is one letter is removed from my current address, i.e. " is current, and " is new one I'm trying to create.

Am I doing this all wrong? Do I have to get permission from my ISP?

Yes, your ISP must create the address for you on the mailserver
