Default make table query error

Hi, I'm having problems running a make table query from an linked table in
access 2003 (via ODBC connection)
I can view the data as a query but when I try to use make table query it
gets as far as letting me know that the existing table that i want to make
will be deleted. Then at the bottom it starts to show the progress of the
query but then nothing happens (it seems like it has crashed and the program
stops responding) there is not much data to view and this runs fine in
access97. Can anyone help me please?
Thanks
T
