How do I turn off that little navigation bar on the lower left corner that
shows up in sldie show whenever I move my mouse?

In 2003 and earlier, go to Tools-- Options-- View tab and uncheck the
entry about the pop up toolbar.

In 2007, go to the Office button, then the PPT Options button, then the
advanced category. Scroll down to Slide Show and uncheck the same option.
