timing set up in rehearse timings no longer works

I am using Powerpoint 2003 on Windows XP.

I set up a powerpoint presentation with just 4 slides and successfully set up
the timing of each text line on each slide, as well as the slide transistion
to the next slide. However, as I added more slides, and made text or slide
design-animation scheme changes to the 4 existing ones, I found I had to redo
my timings on the first slide. So, I redid it by going through the rehearsal
timings again. for all slides. However, while the timing continues to work
correctly
on the rest of the slides, the first slide does not work. The inserted
picture appears first, then the heading comes bouncing in (I set all headers
up to bounce) but nothing else happens. In order to move it on so that each
line of text appears, I have to click the slide. I don't want to do that. I
want it so that when I click on slide show -view show- it runs automatically
according to the timing I set up when I created it in the timed rehearsal.

First thing to check is that slide show - set up show - Use timings if
present is ticked.

Next, I am understanding correctly that you used Slide show - rehearse
timings (and clicked yes to the message at the end) to add the timing?

When in Slide sorter view can you see little numbers by the bottom left hand
corner of all the slides?

If you open the slide transition task pane and scroll through all your
slides do they all have 'automatically after...' ticked? (Be careful not to
click 'apply to all slides' while looking at this :-) )

May take a bit of troubleshooting but I'm sure we'll get there in the end :-)

Hi Lucy,
In answer to your questions.
1. Yes- Use timing if present is clicked.
2. Yes- I am using Slide Show- rehearse timings and clicked Yes to use the
timings at the end.
3. There are numbers on the bottom left hand corner of each slide. (They add
up to the total time of the slide show as well).
5. Yes- they all have "automatically after" ticked.

And I ran the show again just to be sure and same thing happens. It just stops
after the first picture and header bounces on, on the first slide.

Oh- and interestingly, when I click on the MS Office Powerpoint Viewer (in
the
Start panel) and then click on my Slide presentation, the timings are set
correctly
and the slide show goes through without stopping. Why would that happen.
Doesn't the viewer open the same PPT file? If not, which file is it opening?
Can I send that file to someone in email (the same one which the viewer is
opening) so that the person can see the slide show with the correct tiimings?
(That is what I want to do. I need to send the file to someone tonight so
they will have it tomorrow to view).

That is really weird - yes they play the same ppt. OK, not sure this will
help but... Check powerpoint is all up to date & try again. Restart
powerpoint & try again. Restart PC & try again.

Solution for anyone who is interested:
It turned out the 1st slide was advancing but only after a lengthy
unexplained delay. We manually added in the animation & transition timings
for the first slide and left the other slides alone and now it's all good :-)
