Default office 2007 screen flicker

hi,

my dell 9400 with vista and nvidia 7900gs just arrived, and its
flickering like mad straight out of the box. with dell's advice ive
restored the factory settings and reinstalled drivers, but when
maximising windows or opening the nvidia gpu control panel it flickers
like crazy. the flickering only goes away when i dont touch anything.

i havent even tried any serious software yet, so that will be fun.

buyer beware!!

Dell just suggested i turn of the 'Powermizer' setting in the NVidia
control panel. But my version of the control panel doesnt even include
the 'Powermizer' on/off option. Good times!

Help!

Got mouse? Microsoft mouse? Running Intellipoint software? See if
dropping back to version 5 fixes the flickers.

cheers for the advice, but ive got no intellipoint software. i did plug
an intellipoint mouse in after the problem started, but didnt install
the software.

good old Dell tried to remote control my laptop, and then install an
old NVidia driver for XP (as NVidia dont provide a Vista driver for the
7900gs). but now the nvidia card is not responding and it still doesnt
fix the bug.

they said the bug happens 'less often these days', and appears to be an
ongoing issue for multiple computer video cards combinations.

now an onsite engineering tech is coming to my place (how romantic!) to
reinstall the software from the discs i have...

might be sending it back to them pretty soon methinks.

OK, it was worth a shot.

Hmmmm.... so Dell's aware of the problem.

Romantic? Probably someone old and ugly! ;-)

That might be the best option if they can't get it fixed.

I too have a flicker on Outlook 07. I have one of those Dell 1505
laptops. I recently reinstalled to the original condition when I
bought the computer. (CTRL+F11 on start up in case you want to do
that) I needed a clean install after all of the other OS issues, such
as being slow on start up, Outlook locking up, black screen of death
for no reason, etc. The flicker wasn't there before I did all of this.

I'm still looking to resolve the flicker, however for those fuzzy,
pixelated graphics, I installed a clear type power tool, IE 7.0, and
made sure the ATI graphics software was up to date. I then played
around with the display settings and a few other things with the
graphics, it some how was fixed. It's one of those trial and error
things. So far, IE 7 seems to be working fine and the laptop isn't
slow anymore.

I'm still thinking of getting an Apple for my next computer. I hear
this crap doesn't happen with a Mac.

Just to confirm what one other person posted...

I have a MS Mouse and had the flickering started after installing MS
Intellipoint v 6.2

Uninstalling and going to v 5.5 seems to have fixed it.

Also confirming. I just uninstalled intellipoint completely and use a
Logitech mouse now. No flicker anymore. Man that was annoying!
