Default How do I verify licenses and match the license to the proper CD?

if you are an employee of BeLarc, then
your concerns are substantiated.

If not..... then I owe you nothing.

Your always welcome to disagree,
but the method you use appears to
be hostile and demeaning....

Some of you guys just don't get it.
"I" (me), am not hear to debate or
dance or play games with you guys.

Instead I am focused on helping the o.p.
by providing information that i believe
is helpful and based on my experience.
Others are welcomed to do the same.

If I say that I beleive there is an issue with
a software, then so what. If you disagree,
then tell it to the o.p. and provide your reasons.
Simply discrediting someone's suggestion
is not really evidence that you have a better
suggestion for the o.p. In fact it only shows
how little one really knows...

Unfortunately, I think out of all the responses
to this thread, there were only 2 directed
to help the o.p.

What would have been helpful from one of
you guys would have been to let the o.p. know
that belarc is for personal use only. And installing
it on a network or company pc requires permission
and purchase from BeLarc. Hopefully no one
here violated their agreement.

I don't beleive I have an ego. I just want
to be helpful in between my free time....

Default How do I verify licenses and match the license to the proper CD?

Ben,

Here is how I see the story: Belarc is a widely used and reputable
product. If indeed it is spyware, then users should know about it.
However, the person who makes the claim needs to back the claim up with
proof. I don't care whether you are the one making the claim, or whether
Mike Hall or Tom Willett do so. In any case, I am simply not going to
believe the person until I see some proof, e.g. a network log detailing
what was sent to whom. It doesn't matter whether the claim is made here,
on a blog, on Slashdot, in the news or wherever either. If you have
proof that it is spyware, then show it.
As to me doing research and figuring this out for myself. This is not
that easy. It is not a simple equation of time invested resulting in
proof found. It could be that this is linked to your particular setup,
making it impossible for me to reproduce. It could be that it is an
event that is controlled by a randomized timer, etc. With security
issues, investigating alone won't lead to the answer.
Accusing people here that are asking for you to backup your claim of
arrogance or whatnot is not going to do you any good. If you want us to
strengthen your ego and be respected, then post your proof and everyone
here will gladly give you the credit for discovering the issue.
Otherwise and with your current attacking and arrogant behavior, you are
just making yourself to the laughingstock of this newsgroup where
everyone is going to double-check every single post of yours for wrong
answers and unsubstantiated claims.
You can be assured by the way that someone from Microsoft is reading
these posts. They won't though delete any post or take any other action.
The only job of theirs is monitoring whether the MVPs here behave
professionally. If any unprofessional behavior on our part is discovered
by them, they take up the issue privately with us. For obvious reasons,
we can't share the email addresses of those people with non-MVPs.

no, i have nothing to prove to you
and unless you can successfully dispute
my opinions about what i experienced and
what i beleive, then you don't have anything
to say about this subject. Basically your
opinions about me and mine mean nothing
to no one else except you and yours.

crediability and reputation is your concern
as far as i am concern, you are unable
to disprove my opinions. And that is
unfortunate for you - but it is not for
me.

it is hoped that while you were ungoing
an egomaniac episode, you abided by
the terms of the software your were testing
on your machines. It would not be a crediable
act to install a "for use on a personal pc" on
networked systems without paying for it....

In the future, if you want to attack
me then maybe it will help to keep
your opinions in your back pocket
and your scruples between your legs......

i can make whatever claim that i beleive
and "i have seen no paranoia or people
running to the hills".

however, i have seen egomania...

in the future, until you can successfully
dispute any of my claims, then don't
make unrational statements about
paranoia. The mental afflication
you are describing seems to be
within a close nit group
of egomaniacs "that we all
have seen in action herein"...

If not..... then I owe you nothing.

Your always welcome to disagree,

Yes, the problem may be your ego and arrogance.

btw: I think you did good
to mentioned those unknown variables.

I use rationalities like this before
wasting any or my personal time. Its the
cost to benefit formula that requires
the unknown variables to be calculated in.

If you have proof
that it is spyware, then show it.
As to me doing research and figuring this out for myself. This is not that
easy. It is not a simple equation of time invested resulting in proof
found. It could be that this is linked to your particular setup, making it
impossible for me to reproduce. It could be that it is an event that is
controlled by a randomized timer, etc. With security issues, investigating
alone won't lead to the answer.
Accusing people here that are asking for you to backup your claim of
arrogance or whatnot is not going to do you any good. If you want us to
strengthen your ego and be respected, then post your proof and everyone
here will gladly give you the credit for discovering the issue. Otherwise
and with your current attacking and arrogant behavior, you are just making
yourself to the laughingstock of this newsgroup where everyone is going to
double-check every single post of yours for wrong answers and
unsubstantiated claims.
You can be assured by the way that someone from Microsoft is reading these
posts. They won't though delete any post or take any other action. The
only job of theirs is monitoring whether the MVPs here behave
professionally. If any unprofessional behavior on our part is discovered
by them, they take up the issue privately with us. For obvious reasons, we
can't share the email addresses of those people with non-MVPs.

Default How do I verify licenses and match the license to the proper C

I would like to take a moment to thank databaseben for the recommendation. I
was unfortunate that out of all of these responses only one recommendation
was made. I always assume that freeware is spyware. It may not be a justified
assumption but one I feel errors in the favor of myself. I did try this
software, it worked great, I uninstalled it afterwards and I've approached
Belarc about volume licensing so I may legally install it on the 25 pc's at
work.
Again thanks for the recommendation and I am sorry about creating a forum
that lead to such demeanor.

You're welcome, I must have missed the "furor". Erring on the side of
caution is not a bad thing. :-) There are many pitfalls to be found in
the freebie side of things. I am not aware of any issues with
magicjellybean though, so if that one is what you wish to try, go ahead.
