Default Meeting request cancellation issue

When users in our company create a meeting request and correctly book a
meeting room as a resource, we find that if they need to send a cancellation
the booking is not removed from the calendar of the meeting room. It appears
in the calendar as cancelled and marked as free. Although it is not
preventing people from booking the room, because we have so may meetings it
is causing confusion and cluttering up the calendars. Is there a way to
prevent this from happening??
