Default Determining which fonts are in use

I have thousands of Words documents created by versions going back to Word 6.

I also have just over 800 fonts which are the collected fonts installed on
the machines which created the documents.

Clearly I don't want to install all 800 fonts to a new machine, so how do I
determine which fonts are actually used by the documents ?

Is this a scripting problem ?

You may not need any fonts as Office 2003 contains comprehensive fonts
to supplement Windows XP system fonts.

Scripting would be the fastest method but you can also go to
Help/About Microsoft Office Word and click the "System Info.."
command. Then navigate to the Microsoft Word branch and select Fonts
to obtain a list of fonts used in the document.

If you need step-by-step instructions and screen shots then take a
look at this article:
"Hidden Treasures in System Information"
http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/P...icle.asp?ID=85

You can also open the document and go to Tools/Options/Compatibility
Options and click "Font Substitution" to see if there are any missing
fonts.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

This is very helpful for individual documents, but I can't see a way to apply
it to multiple documents. I have several thousand documents and really need
something I can use to examine them all anc compile a list of fonts in use.
