I've got a large 2000 file (250MB) with lots of folders and messages,
contacts, etc. I open it in 2007 and none of the messages, contacts, etc. appear. What can I do? |

Pst files from Outlook 2000 are perfectly compatible with Outlook 2007. Time
to provide some information: how you created, saved and accessed this file. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "mg" wrote in message ... I copied my .pst onto a CD (after making sure it was the right file and
noting its size). I then loaded the copy on the new machine and tried to open it as a personal folder both directly from CD (which can't work because it's read only) and after copying it to my hard drive and making sure it wasn't read only. It (or something opens) as a new Personal Folders but my messages, folders, contacts are not there. I went back and made sure it was the right file and its size indicates that it is. The file is still working properly on my XP machine. Any ideas? Thanks. "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: Pst files from Outlook 2000 are perfectly compatible with Outlook 2007. What you claim to have done would work fine had you done so correctly.
Apparently you did not, but we have no idea what you did wrong from your description. How did you copy this file? Precisely how are you trying to access it? How many PST files do you see in your Outlook profile? -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "mg" wrote in message ... 250mb is not a large file.
Have you checked your Views in OL2007? You have expanded the new set of Personal Folders? You've run scanpst.exe on the file? "mg" wrote in message ... It's not an inconvenience. We can still help recover from mistakes, and
others would learn from your experience. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "mg" wrote in message ... You were right. I did do somethingwrong. Sorry for the inconvenience. I had to do a system re-install yesterday on a Vista laptop. I preparation for this I backup all my Office files (docs & Outlook 2007 PST file).
The PST file (as of yesterday) was just under 2Gb in size and has many emails, contacts, etc. Now that i have re-installed everything and restored the backed-up files, I can successfully open all the Word, Excel & Powerpoint files, but when I open the PST file, it shows as empty. Nothing. I've tried SCANPST on it and it reports only about 26 folders and 200 or so "members" - I know there should be waaaaay more than that. |

Was Outlook open or closed when you performed the process? -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |
